TIME FOR ILHAN chronicles now-U.S. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar's first campaign for office - a hard-fought three-way race for state representative in America's largest Somali refugee community. With tension and urgency, the film shows how gender bias, cultural tradition and fake news all play a part in contemporary American politics. As much a campaign drama as a personal portrait, TIME FOR ILHAN stresses the need for citizens to exercise their right to vote, the importance of passion in leadership, and how essential it is to a community and country of immigrants that government representation be diverse and inclusive.

Directed by Norah Shapiro

Produced by Jennifer Steinman Sternin & Chris Newberry
